With the DOTLUX ‘light-in-light’ system QUICK-FIX , existing lighting systems can be converted to LED quickly, cost-effectively and in compliance with standards, without having to replace the entire luminaire.
This is how the ‘luminaire-in-luminaire’ system works: existing housings are retained, which significantly reduces the need for structural alterations, the amount of material required, installation time and costs . This is a major advantage, particularly in existing buildings, as modernisation can be carried out with minimal effort.

The initial installation is carried out by an electrician. Thereafter, any subsequent changes can be carried out particularly easily and quickly by a person with electrical training , thanks to quick-connect plugs . This makes servicing during operation considerably easier.
Safety and specifications for QUICK-FIX
QUICK-FIX may be used in existing luminaire housings provided that the specifications set out in the operating instructions and the manufacturer’s declaration of conformity are complied with . This includes:
- deactivating the old luminaire
- disconnecting the luminaire from the mains
- removing any existing light sources
For luminaires with a metal housing, the protective earth conductor (PE) must be retained.
In addition, old wiring and sockets must not be reused. Instead, the supply cable from the power supply unit must be QUICK-FIX. For safe operation, an ENEC-certified power supply unit recommended by DOTLUX is required .
The manufacturer’s declaration confirms that QUICK-FIX compliance with DIN EN 60598-1 is not compromised. As there is currently no specific safety standard for conversion lamps, IEC 62776 and IEC 62560 serve as a guide for the safety assessment.

The DOTLUX ‘luminaire-in-luminaire’ system is supplied as a fully tested complete system .
The scope of supply includes, amongst other things:

This provides planners, installers and operatorswith a legally compliant and standards-compliant solution, complete with full documentation.
Legal Classification
A key advantage of the DOTLUX ‘luminaire-in-luminaire’ system is its legal clarity. The requirements for retrofitted luminaires are set out, amongst other things, in the Low Voltage Products Regulation and the EU Blue Guide 2022. The DOTLUX system offers additional certainty in this regard because it is based on the ‘luminaire-within-a-luminaire’ principle and consists of independent, certified luminaires . It is therefore not classified as a ‘ RETROFIT ’ or ‘conversion’ lamp .
As a result, the requirements set out in the ZVEI White Paper, the EU Blue Guide and the regulations on ‘ RETROFIT ’ and ‘conversion’ solutions do not conflict with the system. Once installed, only a visual and functional inspection is usually required , which further reduces the effort involved.
