Current fire protection labelling

The fire protection symbol "MM symbol" used to be an important indicator of the fire hazard of luminaires. It indicated whether the luminaire was suitable for use on certain building materials or not.

However, this mark has no longer been used since the revision of the EN 60598-1 standard in 2009 (with a transitional period until April 2012).

As the new EN 60598-1 standard has provided general approval for mounting on common building materials since 2009, LED luminaires are generally approved for mounting on all common building materials as long as there are no restrictions in the form of labelling. For these luminaires, it is ensured that a temperature of 180°C is not exceeded on the mounting surface even in the event of a fault, such as a short circuit in the ballast.

This means that even LED luminaires that do not bear a special fire protection symbol can be used safely without overheating the mounting surface and thus without the risk of fire.

Even today, many LED luminaires with the old MM or F mark are still in circulation.

You will therefore not find these two markings on DOTLUX GmbH luminaires for the reasons mentioned above. Instead, our products are labelled with the current safety test marks VDE, ENEC or the GS mark.
Consumers can therefore be sure that our products are continuously and independently inspected and tested.

Of course, it remains important to always pay attention to current regulations and labelling to ensure the safe use of LED lights.

A DOTLUX table describes labelling for luminaires, evaluation surfaces, operating conditions and maximum permissible temperatures (<90° to <180°). The table distinguishes between normal and abnormal operating conditions.
